Office Politics?

Thursday, August 28, 2008

As I have told you all before I am a Debt Counselor by day. As you can see, the topic of this post is Office Politics. Office Politics, it can be a tricky and diverse thing if you become part of the minority. Office Politics are exactly the same thing as our Governmental Politics just in a more condensed place. You don't have the freedom of going to millions possibly billions of people. In the case of Office Politics it's just you trying to reach out to office co-workers.

The reason I write this is every office has there little political issue's, and my office is no different. (By no means anything in this article represents my regular full time job. Everything on this blog especially this post is either my opinions and views of things or it's from my observations of the world.) But now I say this to you, do you know what side of the Political Totem pole you stand on the Minority or the Majority. Obviously everyone wants to become part of the majority when political issues arise in the office. Being part of the majority brings job security and peace of mind, and the minority brings nothing but grief and stress.

If and when you do become part of the majority in the inner office political chain, I say to you do not under any circumstances let the majority think your against them in any way or job security can and will become non-existent because you will be out of a job faster than you can blink an eye, especially if the Majority consists of some of the top people in the office. If you do happen to make it to the majority side, then you should do everything you can to help them in all works the group will undertake, you must outperform or contribute something that no one else can so your value can be noticed and your position in the group will be as rock solid as it can get.

Now on to you of the minority. I urge you quickly to go to the majority and show them what your worth and how valuable you are or else you will be looking for a new employer sometime soon because as the saying goes The Majority Rules and the minority your in and anyone after you will never be able to change it. From the beginning of time what ever person can get the majority of people on his/her side always rules. Either they are the leader of the tribe, the czar with the all mighty power to do as he/she pleases, and as we all know we have the President of the United States. Well granted the person that the majority of people vote into office, (which happens every four year for those of you who don't know) sometimes have blown smoke up all of our ass's (excuse my language but I felt there was no other word to describe how I feel about it) to a point where promises become false promises and day dreams. But this can easily be avoided in the Office.

To avoid the situations mentioned above, then you should be the one to bring the majority together. If you can do this later on you will receive praise for such a great job you have done, or you might be shown how good you have done by getting the corner office that guy, that belongs to the minority is sitting his little panic stricken butt in right now biting his finger nails in worry. There is nothing else like doing a good job and being praised about it, instead of insulted.

So, my lesson to you is if you don't jump on the majority band wagon, then you should prepare for the forthcoming events that may and will occur if you do not get with the majority. If you don't want to for some reason join either side of the political chain, than you should start trying to make a following of your own. WARNING: If you do decide to create your own following beware of who your opponents are. The better you know your opponents the easier it will be for you to take there following and bring it under you control. Just make sure you do know who you are up against in your office.

How a Business Loses, when Consumer are Victims

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

All right well all you must see that I have been writing about Fraud and Identity Theft lately. This is because I had a customer (Name will not be given) call in an order for $225.00 worth of software and other good from my Company.

It all started out a couple weeks ago. One day I get a phone call from a customer. I was pretty excited because I am a Small Business Owner, my company is fairly new Krzyview,Co. and he was one of my first client's ever. So of course I go through the regular routine of getting personal information, and what the customer was actually looking for. We figured everything out and came up with a fair price on a large amount of software, articles, and some other things. Trust me the customer left very satisfied with everything I gave him at such a cheap price.

A couple days later I receive a phone call from a man asking questions like why I was debiting his Bank Account. I asked for some personal information to identify who I was talking to. The information the man on the phone gave me was information that matched my customer who was just days ago completely satisfied. So when I thought about the first question asked of me I was sort of baffled.

After talking with my customer for a little bit, it came to light that he was a victim of Identity Theft. I gave over to the customer all the personal information given to me so he can call the proper authorities and his bank, just so he can get this matter settled as quickly as possible.

As of right now my part with the customer is done. I have talked to my bank and if the check is found out to be Fraudulent I will have to pay back the $225.00 for goods I have already provided to someone. Granted the important thing here is that the customer gets his Identity Theft problem fixed. So what does a Small Business Owner do to protect himself from things like this:

  • First step is to verify our clients information by calling any numbers you have for him. If he's a true customer he will appreciate the concern and added security.
  • The address given to you if one was given to you than verify it with site's like Whitepages.com
  • If a purchase was made from your company by a customer using a Fraudulent Information, notify the customer and give any information they may need to rectify the problem with there bank and local Government Agencies
  • Last but certainly not least, Notify your bank of the situation at hand and see what your rights are and what you must do.

What are the effects of identity theft on an organization?

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

If identity theft can cause so much trouble for an individual, it can also cause the same kind of trouble to companies or organizations.

It seems that people have found a gold mine in stealing other peoples’ information to use for their own personal gain. And since there are a lot of benefits gained from this, there is no stopping anyone from doing it more and more.

The popularity of the Internet and computer databases has only become an additional tool for thieves to steal information from. Just think of all the genius minds wandering unnoticed everyday.

The economic and social effect of this crime is not something to be ignored. If they can do these things to nameless individuals then the more they can do it with big organizations that are known and may have some of its information up for grabs.

Even if there is still no perfect solution, every organization should take reasonable steps to reduce the risk and to know what to do if an identity theft incident occurs there.

Identity theft in an organization can be attested to different factors:

Identity theft because of negligence and lenient standards.

Out of negligence, an organization can fail in checking the validity of persons or companies they are selling their information into. They may not be aware that some of this are identity thieves whose sole purpose is to get information about the organization.

Another case of negligence would be putting information into portable, carry around gadgets. Example of these are lap tops and notebooks. The potable things are one of the most convenient ways of keeping important information.

Many of its owners do not protect or encrypt any information stored. The result? Instant access to personal and organization-related information once these things have gotten into the hands of wrongdoers.

There have been reports of data and information being lost in some bigger organizations. There are many reasons why this thing can happen. One is that the company may not have the potential to safely store big files. Another is that, they do not have a way of knowing what the employees are doing and what they can access to.

Identity theft using state-of-the-art attacks.

Some identity theft attacks occur through technical means, such as exploiting weaknesses in computer hardware or software. Hackers make the most of the problems in operating systems, firewalls, Internet browsers, or internal processing software to gain unauthorized access to confidential data.

But these kinds of attack can be countered by:

Keeping up to date with security software updates. An unpatched system is operating with known weaknesses. These weaknesses can act as invitations to hackers. But applying patches takes time and resources. And it is up to senior management to maintain that security updates be handled fast and effectively.

Knowing where essential customer data are stored. Every company should have data flow mapping. This will provide an objective basis for company managers to track information and understand who will have access to those data.
The strategy is to create a “path” so the data do not just thrive randomly in different electronic nooks and corners of the company. This will prevent employees, freelancer, contractors or hackers to gain access to the information stored.

Collecting proof when an incident occurs. Failure to gather evidence in a forensically sound manner can make it impossible to track criminal charges or to look for civil compensation. Having qualified computer forensic resources should be a part of every organization’s plan.

Recognizing the dangers of wireless data communication. You may seen instances where organizations do not properly secure wireless networks. The network may not be protected and unauthorized network could be accessed from outside the premises of the organization. Regular testing to make sure that no one is running a scoundrel network, and that authorized wireless networks are well protected, is very important.

The effects of identity theft in an organization is a problem that should not be taken for granted. While there are no absolute solutions, there are many well-documented methods to decrease the risks and handle incidents effectively.

The effects of identity theft vary from one organization to another. But with preparation, planning, and the recognition that a wide range of expertise sets are needed to stop this crime, any organization can keep up with the challenge.

If you cannot stop identity theft online, prevent them

Online, identity theft is quite common already. It seems that everybody is getting their businesses and transactions done online. That is why, online identity thieves are always on the lookout for their next victims.

How do online savvy protect themselves from the online identity thieves that are rampant nowadays?

1. Passwords.

Know that those little pop ups that is asking you if you would like to remember your user name and password is not helping you any. Most of these passwords are stored in system file and every half brained hackers know about this.
If you are not making use of firewalls, it is pretty easy for just about anyone to get hold of your password and use that anytime in your expense.

Be wary of these things. A prevention measure is to have a lengthy password complete with different kinds of characters.

As much as possible, do not input all your information in your computer or when something asks for it. The internet is definitely not a safe place to store your data and information.

2. Phishing.

What is phishing?

Phishing is one of the strategies being used to fool people into giving out their passwords and other personal information by pretending that they come from a genuine source.

Examples are emails sent by someone staring that you have won on some online raffle. And that you need to give out some information for verification. Out of hope or ignorance, you probably will end up giving them what they want.
This is what phishing is all about. Phishing scammers are very much skilled in imitating other styles and language of communications. They use lists of millions of email addresses to send their notes out to, in the hope of getting even a small number of victim.

If you find it hard to distinguish which emails you are receiving are scams, try to verify the source of the message. Better yet, ask some sort of proof first to find out they are really legitimate or not.

3. Firewalls.

In the past, firewalls were a luxury. But now, they have become a necessity.

There are already an increasing number of Internet hackers that are making use of free programs that can compromise your system.

Take note that there are around 60,000 points of entry to your computer. So you may want to at least filter out some of the entries that can cause trouble.

4. A secure connection.

Before sending out any personal information, make sure that you make it a point to check out the browser address bar. Why is this?

Because you may want to be assured that you are sending them on a secure connection. A secure connection is an address that begins with http. If you do not see this in the address browser, then you can guarantee that that link is not secured. They can be breached easily. There goes your details.

5. Always confirm.

Before you click on that send button, think hard first. Are you willing to give out vital information away? Do you trust the receiver of this?

Today, every bit of information can be built into a solid profile. You can actually get a lot of information about someone just by knowing his or her birthday. This is the online world. Apparently, identity thieves also know about this.

Be prepared for the consequences that your actions will bring. You cannot blame anyone but yourself when you find yourself a victim of identity theft online.

6. Account checking.

If you are one of those banking online, be sure to go back and check in after a few days to review the transactions you have made. Not all of these online financial institutions have the ability to filter out fake transactions.

If ever you find something suspicious in your transaction, contact your bank immediately so they can take the necessary steps and stop further unknown negotiations to happen. In many of these cases, you will not be made liable for the expenses or charges that may incur. That is why, you have to report the soonest possible time.

Online identity theft is not likely to go away for sometime. So you need to be aware of them in order to prevent them from getting the most out of you.

Identity theft commercials are really happening

You may have laughed off at the absurdity that is shown in identity theft commercials. But they should be not something to laugh about.

Some commercials may have even touched or scared you. But the most effective identity commercials are those that make people wary whenever they go out or use their credit cards.

What you see on television is actually a example of what might happen in reality. No matter how funny or violent these identity theft commercials maybe, they are nothing compared to what can happen in real life.

You can actually benefit and learn from watching commercials about identity theft. Try to listen to the accounts of identity theft victims talking about all the things the thief was able to purchase and what they have accomplished using your identity.

Identity theft is not just what you see in your tube. They are real and actual problems that still have no solutions. On the contrary, it is getting worse and worse as time goes by.

The more conservative methods used by identity thieves consist of stealing records or information while on the job and stealing your mail, such as bank and credit card statements, credit card offers, new checks and tax information.

Mail can be stolen while it is to and from your mailbox. A thief can fill out a “change of address’ form and have your mail brought to a different address. They can also gain access to your information by going through your trash or the trash of businesses or public trash dumps.

To get a credit report, identity thieves may pretend to be a landlord, an employer or someone else who may have legal right to admission to your personal information.

Even if you think your own personal information is well protected, you may not be aware of some of the high-tech, and highly clever methods that thieves today are using to get your personal data.

Some of the most popular commercials show some skimming and phishing strategies that identity thieves are doing.

In skimming, identity thieves obtain credit or debit card numbers by putting the information in a data storage device they have put to an ATM or automated teller machine.

On the same note, shoulder surfing is when an identity thief uses a camera phone or positions near a person who is using the ATM or is typing in his or her credit card number into a phone.

The most recent trend in this crime involves fraudulent emails. This is quickly becoming one of the frequent cases.

According to results of a survey done by a financial transaction company, around 43 percent of users have received phishing contracts in their emails. In this strategy, identity thieves pose as banks, credit card companies or other institutions to get you to give out information such as passwords or account numbers.

In the more sophisticated strategy also known as pharming, users that are trying to get into a certain site is mislead to fake sites that have the same address.

Now that you already know some of the identity theft cases, you maybe wondering if you can use the measures you have seen on identity theft commercials. Although some of them may be reality-based and can actually work, it is important that you also know some of important things not seen in those commercials.

Consumers can avoid being an identity theft victim by using only ATMs that they are familiar with, checking out the machine to be certain that nothing looks out of the ordinary and covering up the pin number you are using.

You should continue maintaining your monthly checks and statements for at least one year in case you need to disagree over a particular check transaction made.

Finally, when you throw out papers that have personal information, such as ATM , bank checks, etc. try to shred them first before dumping. It is also a good idea to keep a file of all credit cards, account numbers, expiration dates and credit card customer service phone numbers in a safe place in case your cards are stolen or lost.

You can never be too careful these days. Anyone can be a victim of identity theft, commercial or no commercial.

Check Credit Report Regularly and Beware of Identity Theft

All of us know the importance of credit report in our lives. Our credit report show our personal information such as your legal name, alias names, addresses, current and previous employers, and date of birth.

We also have that credit report summary showing the following:

- Current and past credit status
- Total number of open and closed accounts
- If the balances of our accounts are current or delinquent
- Public record information such as federal bankruptcy records local government court records, liens, judgments, and child support records (information that can stay in your record for up to 10 years)
- Credit inquires that we use when applying for a credit card or loan
- Detailed account history - very up to date information about your loan payments
- Credit card debt and payment history
- Credit score.

Your credit score is a number ranging from 330 to 830. The higher the number assigned to you, the better your credit is. It increases the chance of you obtaining a loan or credit account.

The Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax are major credit bureaus collect, maintain, and distribute our credit information.

Our credit report does not also end with our financial matters. We also use our credit report for a variety of purposes not related with mortgage and other loan applications.

Auto insurance companies often request us for copies of our credit reports as part of the process in applying for auto insurance. Our employers may also request for our credit reports as basis in deciding whom to hire for a specific position. Our credit report may also be the important link for us to know if we have become victim of identity theft!

Identity theft is a criminal act wherein our personal financial information, supposed to be confidential, are obtained through illegal means and used for unauthorized purchases and transactions.

The most common forms of identity theft are the credit card fraud, bank fraud, communications services, and fraudulent loans.

The audacity of an identity thief is shown in his/her use your personal information, which could be result to a financial disaster and a damage of reputation on your part. Falling victim to this harmful activity could impugn your financial reputation for many years to come.

There are a lot of thing you can do to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. This article focuses on obtaining and reviewing your credit report, quite similar to what we do when we perform network security assessments.

The information from our credit report reflect our credit and consumer habits. Unless you make efforts to obtain necessary credit reports, you may never know how credit worthy you is or not. Obtaining credit reports is also a way to check if you have fallen into the insidious identity theft crime.

Verifying and frequently checking your credit report is a good means to make sure no one has obtained your identity. You may think that it may not happen to you, but there is nothing wrong by being doubly sure. If ever there are evidences pointing to the fact you are being robbed of your identity, then you can quickly act upon it. Avoid major damage to your personal and financial reputation that took you so many years to establish.

Here are ways to check your credit and see if there are evidences of your credit account being used by identity theft:

1. Carefully examine your credit report copy upon receipt. Look into the section dealing with inquiries against the report. If you do not know about this yet, well, every time you apply for a loan or credit card there is an inquiry initiated against your credit report.

You will recognize the inquiries against the report if you are the one who have applied for a loan using your credit account. However, if you notice certain entries you do not recognize, immediately notify the credit-reporting agency.

2. If you notice errors, such as a bill paid off but still show as outstanding on the report, then notify the agency and request for it to be removed. You must follow up personally on these corrections and make sure that your specific request has been acted upon.

Be alert always and take the issue of identity theft as a serious threat to our good name. Make sure that your personal and financial information never get into the wrong hands. It is for the good future of your family, too.

Identity Fraud and You

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Identity Fraud is one of the United States largest problems. Identity Fraud is done for many reasons besides trying to get someone's credit. But, Identity Theft will be the main focus of this post. An identity that has been stolen usually goes unnoticed for quite sometime. With the implementation of The Fair Credit Reporting Act, consumer's now are aloud to receive one (1) Free Credit Report a year from each any Consumer Reporting Agency. Besides your one allowed Free Report a year, The Fair Credit Reporting Act also allows the consumer a credit report from an agency when that agencies information was used to deny you for any line of credit.

The government has implemented many regulations that govern anything from the way a creditor is allowed to offer a line of credit to how the collections of the debt may be handled. There is a lot of subjects I could go over at the moment but the main concern is Identity Fraud.

Identity Fraud is something that may happen to any of us no matter how safe we are. This is do to the security flaws that are in todays Technologies and the lack of testing configurations when server's are setup. This has been one of the biggest reasons for the loss of personal information is because companies are not making sure all there information is secure from search engine spiders. So in turn the spiders read the information stored in the unprotected files and directories and give access to it to the world. In the past five years 3 of the biggest security breach's where personal information such as Social Security Numbers, Names, Address', and credit card information has been taken.

The instances mentioned above could have been avoided if the companies that we deal with on a day to day basis, and hold all of our personal information, would just take a little extra time to make sure things are set correctly. This would reduce the risk of Identity Fraud drastically. I myself have tried some of the google hacks that will actually bring up the personal information of others if it's indexed with there systems, and information pulled up. Most of the information I had gotten on my search was only information regarding the 3 breach's from the past. But some old information I did find. It was in the systems cache information. The little green link on google under the search results. The information was nothing usable to a major extent. The information I did find was name and address'.

Make sure any company you give you personal information to such as credit card numbers and Social Security Numbers are secured from when your information is given to them. Granted no security is 100% but with proper precautions in place and security updates regularly Identity Fraud will be cut down to such an extent that worrying about it will be yesterdays news.

Secure your Company from Corporate Identity Theft

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

The maniacal cruelty and audacity of identity theft criminals have now reached into the corporate world of business companies. In November 2005, the corporate identity theft crime wave reached the UK businesses.

According to brief reports last November, the corporate identity theft cost UK businesses up to £50M a year. Why? What is the modus operandi of these corporate identity thieves? Actually, it has been going on for years now.

Believe it or not, there are criminals posing as company directors on certain companies! Each year, as they see how gullible some people could be, there has been increasing number of them. They order goods that they never pay for and then sell those products for profits thus ripping off suppliers.

As a smokescreen to make them seem legitimate, they register through government agency handling company registrations, change company records and run up credit using company’s name.

Indeed, there are rouges that claim/pretend to be the manager or other illustrious title of a company and check that company’s credit rating. When he/she see that it's good, he starts his game. By forging and filing forms at the government agency where companies are registered, he notifies the appointment of a fictitious new director. He then implies that there’s a new registered office address for the company.

Since the Registrar of Companies cannot check the validity of the documents, and is not obliged by law to check them, they proceed to register them. Afterwards, the thief orders high value goods and services on credit. He/she may use false IDs and then pretend to be a company director.

To countercheck, the supplier may search at Companies House. Since the accuracy of the thief’s claim has been established there already, the supplier will not see anything amiss. However, once the goods are delivered, the fictitious company directory disappears, without paying. The company he represented then suffers the set back.

As of now, according to reports many companies are suffering from this kind of corporate identity theft. It has become a present problem since even smaller companies are as vulnerable as large ones.

A company who has become victim of a corporate identity theft may even find out long after the rouge has taken off. Once they need a loan, they may be surprised of being denied credit and learn that they cannot obtain credit because they already have significant financial obligations. Until they can clear up that these are made by somebody else has accumulated these debts using the company’s name, their business may suffer terribly.

Beware, for this may happen in your company. You must know that it's the medium sized and smaller businesses being targeted.

Security and trust are very important aspects in corporate ethics code. Corporate identity theft seems to have broken the barriers of these ethical bounds.

Whether your business is in UK or in any other part of the globe, avoid falling victim to corporate identity theft. There are simple precautions that you can make sure to make sure corporate identity theft does not taint your company’s good name.

Here are protective measures recommended for companies to prevent other people from pretending to be you.

First, make sure that the thief has not targeted your business. You need to frequently check with the government agency handling company registrations to see if your company’s registered office is accurate. You can do it online by finding out the website of the government agency mentioned.

You can also sign up proof service in order to pre-empt the thief. If your business is in UK, you can file online for PROOF service.

Filing for proof service means that certain changes in the information about your company should only be filed electronically. This must include the changes of company director’s name and your business address.

Once you file for proof service, filing through paper forms will be rejected. There are user name, password and authentication codes used in these electronic forms wherein your documents will be protected and no one else who does not know these codes can access them.

Do not let the tentacles of corporate identity theft get into your company. Stop pretensions of thieves and fight back. Aside from the preventive measures given, companies can find other means of preventing and eventually, stopping the insidious attacks of this crime.

Ways on Preventing Identity Theft

Identity theft has been one of the worst crimes happening all over the world. People pose as other people to get something, usually the money of the people they pose as.

If we think of the security measures being taken to hide our Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, and other vital information, it is quite alarming how people still obtain this information and uses them to steal a lot from us!

Here are some ways to prevent identity theft:

1) Put a lock on your home mailbox
If the mailbox you keep is readily accessible by anyone, better buy a lock for that. One root cause of identity theft is that strangers steal your mail, gather as much information as they can on you, then pose as you when doing transactions to get valuable things you own.

2) Rent a PO Box from the Post Office
If you do not have a mailbox at home, and you are usually away on trips, rent a PO Box from the local post office. Always have your mails addressed to your PO Box address to prevent others from having access to your mail.
Deposit your outgoing mail to your PO Box. Also, request a vacation hold from the Post Office for your mail if you will be away for more than 2 days.

3) Don’t give financial details over the phone
The usual strategy is when people pose as some charitable foundation or a telemarketer for some online store or TV shop, and then they ask for your credit card details. Give your details to them, and you can kiss your credit line and history goodbye.

4) Have a private phone number
It pays to have your own private number. You will be getting only calls from the people you know, and from people who got your number directly from you.
Make sure that you give your number only to trustworthy people. This will minimize telemarketers and other fraud artists from calling you and possibly stealing your identity.

5) Store your PINs in a safe place
It we know it is difficult to memorize the PINs of your ATM cards, credit cards, and debit cards. It will save you a lot of trouble if you store your PINs in a safe place that is away from your plastic cards.
If a thief steals your plastic card, he will not be able to use it after a few unsuccessful attempts at your PIN as the system will lock your card. It may be an inconvenience for you as well, but that will prevent your money from being stolen.

6) Photocopy both sides of your wallet’s contents
Make sure that you have a photocopy of all contents of your wallet. If your wallet is stolen, you can easily report it to the proper authorities.
Make sure you report the theft to the proper companies, (e.g. Social Security, credit card company etc.) as soon as possible to prevent the thieves from using your personals.

7) Carefully choose your passwords
Thieves can easily determine your passwords, especially for your online accounts. Make sure your password is very difficult to determine, usually a combination of letters and numbers only you will remember, or something that will not be associated with you.

8) Always obtain a credit card report
It is always a good move to have a monthly report regarding your credit card. You will never know what purchases may pop up on your bill. Call the following major bureaus to have your monthly report:

Equifax: P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, GA 30374-0241 For Fraud Alerts, call: 800-525-6285 Experian: P.O. Box 2002 Allen TX 75013 for Fraud Alerts, call: 888-EXPERIAN (397-3742) Trans Union: P.O. Box 1000, Chester, PA 19022 For Fraud Alerts, call: 800-680-7289

9) Keep your records and personal papers in a safe place
Thieves can get into your home, and if they find your personal papers like loan applications, birth certificate etc., they will use these information to steal anything from you.
Make sure these are in a safety deposit box where only you know its location. If not, place these in a safety deposit box in a bank.

10) Have a good paper shredder
Make sure you have access to a powerful paper shredder, usually the crosscut type. Pre–filled charge receipts, copies of credit applications, insurance forms, physician statements, checks and bank statements, expired charge cards that you're discarding, and mail credit offers should be immediately shredded, NOT TORN TO PIECES, when they will be discarded.

11) Proper Use of Credit Cards
Do not sign at the back of your credit card. If possible, always have a photo laminated into your credit card so that a thief cannot use it.
Also, do not use your credit card in establishments like restaurants, where your card will be out of your sight. Do not give out any details regarding your credit card.

Could your Domain Name Be Bad for Business?

Thursday, August 14, 2008

You have decided to start your own business online and you want to start advertising and getting potential customers to your site. Imagine being able to run your business 24 hours a day 7 days a week and never leave your house to do so.

Running a business online can be very profitable if you have the correct domain name for your business.

You don't want to mislead your customers by advertising something that you don't sell to get them into your store. This can lead to trouble and you dont need that.

When you choose your domain name you may want to consider your most popular item that you will be offering and see if you can add that into your domain name.

Like if you have the name "Pens R Us" chances are your customers will know that you are selling pens, paper, and office supplies. When they need to order they can click on your site to choose from the many varieties that you carry. They may even be able to get their company logo on the pens when they order.

This is a great way to add your business product into your domain name.

If you are selling pens and office supplies and you choose a domain name such as "Paper Products", this covers a lot of general ground and may not attract the potential customers that you would have attracted if you had used "Pens R Us".

You need to try to be specific on your domain name in order to get it right. Your name sometimes says it all and it is all that someone will see. Choose a name that is important to your business and you will be a success.

Blogging... What does it mean?

When I first started this business Krzyview.com, I had a whole different perspective towards blogs.

I thought blogs were nothing more than people's thoughts and opinions, pun mainly into an online journal for other people to view and comment on. Boy, was I wrong. Blogging is so mch more than a journal at least to the right person.

Blogging to me is a way to help educate people in areas that may be to expensive for them to afford otherwise. I have found a way to help people learn the way I had to learn, and that is with no help. I have been in the computer industry for over 14 years now an I can say I have no thought of stopping now.

By using a Blog for your business you are essentially driving traffic to your company as long as you list your blog with the proper search engines. I mean to create a blog takes no more than 20 minutes a little longer if you do not have any material prepared to post. Who doesn't want free traffic for there site when all they really have to do is make sure that they keep there blog updated as often as possible with the news from there site and other affiliations and topics that consist of there main site. Produce enough post's and views a day and you should see that increase in revenue you have been looking for.

While your at it after each post in your blog you should put some affiliate links that relate to the topic of the post. The best type of links here might just be pay per clicks, also if you have a google's adsense account you might want to make sure you have the ad sense code integrated into the HTML of the actual blog itself or the more popular blogging sites or blogging scripts that you can purchase will have in the settings an easy way to migrate your google's adsense in to your blog.

Start blogging today and see those profits rise tomorrow.

Do you have your Personal Finances in Order?

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Let me start off by saying, that if you have not begun to think about the start up costs of a Business yet, the first thing to do is go over you personal budget NOW!! You are forewarned this is probably the most important thing you will do in beginning phase of starting your business.

One of the biggest mistakes first time business owners make is not taking the time to go over all of there Personal Finances. Honestly how do you expect to even file the proper paper work to start you new found entity. The fees can be minimal if you search around on the net. Just remember the higher cost Incorporating kits usually get extra benefits to make your life that much easier down the line.

During the planning stage you will begin to realize theres little costs here and there, mainly for proper supplies. A Business loan can be a good idea at this time, but because your a start up company you have to give a personal gurantee to repay back on the credit. Most creditors have a time limit on how long a Business must be open before it can receive credit without a personal gurantee. If your personal credit is not in order you can expect to be denied.

At the same time it is important not to get carried away with getting credit. Even though the Credit is for the Business, to much will hurt your personal credit. If you use credit cards that are already in your name make sure you keep your receipts to turn into your accountant when all is said and done, and he will work it out when taxes are do. If you do not have an accountant yet than do not rush into the decision and pick just anyone to take care of your finances. Do not be afraid to setup an interview and when your there ask questions. A good accountant will figure out exactly what it is your trying to do with your money and will than show you, your options that will best accomplish what your trying to do with the best savings on your money. Make sure your Accountant makes you feel comfortable when he's around, you will be meeting with them on a regular basis and you are trusting them with all your financial information, so do your homework.

Search Engine Copywriting For SEO Without Losing Readability

Copywriting is one significant factor when you want to achieve excellent search engine ranking. Yet, a lot of times website owners think that all that they have to do is to incorporate keywords in page tags and include some keyword mentions in their articles. While SEO copywriting not exceedingly hard, writing for search engines is more complex than that.

“Search engine optimization copywriting” or SEO, is a method of writing viewable or easily scanned text on your web page which is very acceptable and readable for the internet user as well as targets certain or exact search terms, having the purpose of ranking high in search engines.

SEO Copywriting” generally optimizes and enhances other on-page components for search terms being targeted, namely the title, the description and likewise keywords tags, alt text and headings.

Search engines require and look for authentic content pages, rather than additional pages which are designed solely for attaining high rankings; this then, is the concept of “SEO copywriting”. And for this reason, search engines may not likely consider SEO pages with undesirable copywriting content.

Simply put, your site’s content must follow good marketing standards, having great interaction with your visitors because excellent “SEO copywriting” acknowledges the fact that humans make the purchasing decisions and not “spiders”.

It is recommended that your content comprises of about 250 words that are viewable per page, having a maximum of two targeted keywords or search terms located strategically inside the text as well as in other on-page components.

A good quality and informative copywriting content indeed is the very foundation for a website to be successful. A good content and excellent website setup will direct your visitors to what exactly they desire while collecting or inquiring for information in your website. A well developed and constructed content page really is important for powerful website content and can take a huge bound in your keyword ranking approach.

Always remember that internet surfers do not "read" all the time your content, but rather, their tendency is just to scan through the page, searching for prominent and attractive sentences and words. Meaning that for you to magnetize your visitors, you need to write not only convincing and captivating content, but also scannable.

When a prospect visits your site searching for a service or product, it can be due to fact that they find your information educational and helpful; thus it actually depends on the quality of your content and what type of information that you supply your visitors that determines whether they stay or leave your website. A content rich in keywords will leave an enduring impression for your SEO campaign.

Here are a few guidelines on writing good quality SEO content:

1. Understand and determine your “key phrases” before you begin writing. Returning and then editing an already existing copy so to reach higher keyword concentration can be a difficult task which often results in fragmented sentences, complicated statements and a copy that is stiff sounding. If you already know the “key phrases”, then you are able to construct a complete and flowing stream of ideas.

2. Know who your target audiences are. You need to determine your target clients before writing your content, so that you can address them properly. You can not write a good quality, informative and persuading content without knowing your visitors requirements, problems and needs.

Your content should offer a solution to their problems and you need to first identify that problem before you can determine a solution.

3. Incorporate your “key phrases” in the headlines. Almost all search engines believe that a headline is a significant part of your copy which means that the text that comprises the headlines bears additional effect.

When you make headlines, be certain to construct them so that they also carry the keyword that you have used in your content. Also take note of the “HTML encryption for your title. When you make bold headlines and incorporating them in “

” or “” tags, they will catch the search engine’s attention.

4. Scatter or distribute properly your “key phrases” all throughout the body of your article. To do this effectively, focus on just a maximum of three primary keywords and let them naturally flow in your article.

There is what is called a "3 percent guideline" which states that 3 percent of the words in your article must be “keywords”. You should take note however, that this is only a guideline; do not ruin a good article just so to achieve the three percent guideline by insisting on the keywords in sentences where it does not fit just so to achieve the “3 percent guideline.”

Just remember that a literature form of writing is not what is required in SEO copywriting; it just makes a poor web content. SEO copywriting demands that you specifically need to write for the internet, something that is very much different from a literature or storybook style of writing.

There is more to web copywriting than merely writing well. Keep this in mind: Effective web copywriting and keywords “search engine optimization” mean the same thing.

Top Seven Ways Writing Articles Can Explode Your Business

Sunday, August 10, 2008

In today's highly competitive internet universe, the importance of attracting highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be overemphasized. Routing web traffic to your site can be your only means of survival, especially in the cutthroat world of ecommerce. Getting a high search engine ranking can be very difficult. Fortunately, there is plethora of website promotion strategies you can use to drive traffic to your website.

There is a wide variety of strategies you can adapt, from paid advertising to affiliate marketing. However, most of these techniques require payment. Nevertheless, there are ways to promote your website and increase your web traffic without spending anything. Writing articles is one of the best web site promotion strategies you can use, and they can be very effective. How, you may ask, can writing articles help improve your web traffic? Here are the top seven ways in which it can help explode your business.

1.Reach more people

When you write good articles, it would be a shame not to share them with other people. You can post your articles in your website or you can submit them to other sites such as e-zines and online publishers. By submitting your articles to these sites, you give exposure not only to your ideas but also to your website. Simply include a link back to your site or include your information in the resource box. With this, you get exposure and free advertising as well. Submit your articles to popular e-zines and take advantage of their popularity. Other sites who find your article relevant may also link back to you. Thus, you increase your link popularity, which is one of the most important strategies in the internet world. Remember that most people are looking for information online and by filling this need with your quality article; you may reap the benefit of more exposure and higher web traffic.

2.Free Advertising

Submitting your articles to other websites presents an opportunity to advertise your website without paying exorbitant fees. Although you should avoid marketing language in your articles and make it informative and useful to your readers, you can always include your site's link in the resource box. In addition, by making your article relevant and helpful to your readers, you are making a good impression for your website, which could ultimately lead to a visit and hopefully a purchase. Good quality content in an article is far better and more effective than a few lines of ad space. You have a very special opportunity to presell your product or service to your prospective customer.

3.Gain High Search Engine Ranking

Create a new web page for your article in your website. Optimize your article to make it search-engine friendly. Use top-ranked keywords and Meta tags that can give your website a high search engine ranking. As soon as you upload your new webpage to your server, search engines will spider through it and you can gain an increase in search engine ranking. Remember that search engine optimized content is a very effective strategy to gain a high ranking in search results.

4.Increases Link Popularity

Instead of looking for other sites who would want to establish reciprocal links with your site, you can simply submit an article to other sites. Just do not forget to include a link to your site in your resource box. When these websites pick up and publishes your article, you automatically get a link partner. Try to get as many link partners as you can. Link popularity is one of the factors used by search engines in determining search engine rankings. Make your article especially useful and appealing, so that more websites will be encouraged to publish it.

5.Optimizes your site for improved search engine ranking

By making your site keyword rich, you can greatly improve the search engine ranking of your site. Remember that keyword density is one of the most important factors that search engines use when determining the search engine ranking of site. However, you should always provide relevant, useful and pertinent information. Avoid the temptation of overusing keywords just to gain a high ranking as this may turn off most web surfers. Relevance and quality is still the most important things to consider when writing articles and it will be doubly useful to your site if you make these articles search-engine optimized.

6.Establishes a Good Impression and Reputation

By writing excellent, original and relevant articles, you not only give your site exposure, you are also creating a good impression on your prospects. Encourage more people to visit your site and do business with you by establishing an impressive reputation through your articles. Be seen as an expert in the field and your will ultimately gain more customers eager to do business with you.

7.Enhances your credibility through references and testimonies

Certainly, your articles are going to receive feedbacks and testimonies when you publish them in e-zines and free article sites. Record these positive feedbacks and comments and use them as promotional material in your website or in any of your advertising efforts. Your credibility will be greatly enhanced by these feedbacks, as it will create a good impression on your prospects as well as your existing customers. In this highly competitive world, excellent credibility and trust may be the only things you need to attract new customers or make loyal patrons out of your existing customers. Original, relevant, useful and pertinent articles are important tools you should utilize to improve and explode your business

Writing a Business Plan

Are you getting ready to start developing your business plan? If so, have you thought about how you are going to go about developing that business plan or what you should include in it? If you are unfamiliar with business plans, particularly what they include, you may want to the take the time to familiarize yourself with items commonly found on a business plan. Doing so may make it easier for you to develop a business plan that will fit your needs.

One of the most important things that you should include on a business plan is the type of business that you are interested in starting. For example, are you interested in starting a retail store, an online store, or a cleaning service? Regardless of which type of business you plan on starting, you need to outline that business, preferably in great detail. It is also important to mention the products or services that you plan on selling, also in great detail.

It is also important to mention where your business will be located or, at least, where you want your business to be located at. If you are planning on starting an internet business, this process will be a little bit easier to explain. If you are starting an internet business, it may be a good idea to mention the domain name that you would like to choose for your online website. If you are planning on running a storefront business, you will want to focus on properties that are available for sale or for rent. If you do not want to do this, you will, at least, want to focus on the type of building that you would like to rent or buy and your preferred business location.

Another point that you should mentioned in your business plan is how your business will be run. For example, will you be running your own business or will you hire someone else to run it for you? It is also important to mention whether or not you plan on hiring outside assistance. The amount of staff that you would like to hire is important when examining the potential success of your business, as well as the costs associated with running it.

In addition to your business expenses, it is also important to focus on how you plan on generating income for your business. That is why your business plan should include advertising or marketing strategies. These strategies should be used to reach your target audience. Your target audience is who you think is most likely to become a client or a customer of yours. In fact, your target audience should also be outlined in your business plan.

It is also advised that your business plan focus on your competition. This is extremely important, especially if you are planning on using your business plan to obtain financing for your up and coming business venture. Financial lenders and investors will want to make sure that your business will be a success. In most cases, you will find that the success of your business relies on the competition. That is why it is advised that you obtain an accurate count of businesses in your area that are offering the same products or services as you are, as well as the prices that those products and services are being offered at.
The above mentioned points are just a few of the many that you will want to cover, when making your business plan. Some of the other points that are worth mentioning include your financial needs, security plans, and business insurance.

Finding the Security Suite that meets your needs

Friday, August 8, 2008

Before proceeding to read this article, it is important that we state something up front. It is essential for the reader to understand and appreciate that there is no such thing as a secure operating system or web browser. While the use of security suites and other complementing products can significantly reduce your risks, they are not magic wands that you can wave to eliminate 100% of your risk. Any product claiming they can do this should be viewed with great skepticism.

With that being said, let’s talk computer security and security suites. There are numerous ways in which the security of your computer can be breached. The most common threats come from worms, viruses, Trojans, phishing, hackers and crackers. Potential security breaches can come in the form of downloading unfamiliar email attachments, being monitored by spyware, maliciously attacked by malware, or probed through port scanning.

Dshield.org (www.dshield.org), a non-profit company, functions as a “dominating attach correlation engine with worldwide coverage”. In short, they work with people and companies to track, among other things, port scanning violations. Port scanning involves a person (referred to as a hacker or cracker) who attempts to break into you computer through the open ports in your system. Once an open port is located, the individual attempts to collect your personal data or install a malware program into you computer. On average, Dshield.org logs over 1.1 billion reported attempts of port scanning each month. What is even scarier is that this is just based on their program participants. You can imagine how many more incidents are occurring each month to the general population of computer users.

Dshield.org also reports on survival time. Survival time refers to how long it will take before an unpatched PC is attacked or infected. Below is a snapshot of their current operating system breakdown:

Current OS Breakdown

Category

Adjusted Survival Time

Unix

In short, if you have a Windows-based operating system and an unpatched PC, you will be attacked or infected in a little over 2 hours. When looked at in these terms, securing your computer becomes a mission.

Here are a few easy steps you can take to immediately protect your computer.

1. Don’t run unfamiliar programs on your computer.
It sounds like common sense, but many of the most prominent attacks have involved spyware and email attachment worms such as Bagle and Netsky. If you don’t recognize the sender, don’t download its attachments.

2. Don’t allow unrestricted physical access to your computer.
If you have sensitive or proprietary information on your computer, allowing other employees or family members to use your computer can lead to potential breaches in your computer’s security.

3. Don’t use weak passwords.
Use passwords which are difficult for someone to figure out. People frequently use the names of children, pets, anniversary dates, or birthdays. Because there seems to be a password needed for everything, it is not uncommon to see many people using the same password for everything. Big mistake! The use of only one password provides a hacker with easy access to a smorgasbord of personal information. If you have to write your passwords down, it is best not to leave them on a post-it, attached to the screen of your computer. You may chuckle at the absurdity, but it happens more than you think.

4. Don’t forget to regularly patch your operating system and other applications.
Many industry experts believe that most network security attacks would be stopped if computer users would just keep their computers updated with patches and security fixes. Too often, we forget to do this on a regular basis. Remember that every day, new viruses, worms and Trojans are being created and distributed. They are looking for the weaknesses in your computer system. Having outdated software is basically the same as holding the door open and inviting them in for a visit.

5. Don’t forget to make regular backups of important data

Always keep a copy of important files on removable media such as floppy/ZIP disks or recordable CD-ROM disks. Store the backups in a location separate from the computer.

In most cases, Windows desktop and screen-saver passwords provides adequate protection for normal security concerns. However, if you feel more comfortable taking additional security measures consider obtaining a comprehensive security suite.

Selecting a Antivirus Software

The next question is how do you pick the best product for your needs? You start by asking yourself a series of questions. Do you need password protection for individual files, your desktop, a network, or to block someone’s access to the Internet? Is your computer used only by you or do multiple users have access to the computer? How many users in total do you expect on your computer? What are your system requirements? How much do you want to spend?

Once you are able to answer these questions, you can begin to research which security suite will best meet your needs. Product reviews and user statements provide a great starting point. PCMagaine (www.pcmag.com), Zdnet.com (www.zdnet.com), and Consumer Reports (www.consumerreports.org) are just a few informative sites that offer research on various computer software products.

There are numerous security suites available on the market. Take the time to choose the one that meets your specific needs. As a starting point, we’ve listed a couple of the more popular programs:

1. Kaspersky Personal Security Suite
Description: A comprehensive protection program package designed to guard against worms, viruses, spyware, adware and other malicious programs. The program offers five pre-defined security levels and is convenient for mobile users. Additionally, the maker, PC Security Shield offers ongoing free technical support.
